VSMPO-AVISMA and Alcoa are developing innovations for Russian machine-builders

The VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation, OJSC, and the Alcoa Company are going to provide transport machine-building businesses with high-tech products made of light alloys. The parties have signed the Memorandum of Understanding in technological and business cooperation.

The VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation press service has informed "RusBusinessNews" that the companies' solutions will be used in design development of Russian high-speed trains of the new generation. The new materials - wide (up to 700 millimeters) and long (up to 26 meters) extruded profiles - will help to decrease substantially the rolling stock weight, cut power costs and reduce negative impact on environment.

Sergei Chemezov, the Chairman of the Board of Directors at the VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation, OJSC, General Director of the Rostechnologies State Corporation, is confident that the novelties will be in demand not only on the railway market. "I hope that the joint work will result in innovative solutions that will find application in different sectors of industry", - he noted.

Alcoa, an American company, is a world leader in production of primary aluminum, aluminum products and alumina. Alcoa's innovations are used in aerospace, ship building, and automobile industries as well as in manufacturing of packaging products, building structures, commercial vehicles, consumer electronics and industrial commodities. In 2005, Alcoa acquired two largest Russian enterprises with semi-finished aluminum manufacturing operations: the Samara Metallurgical Plant (at present, Alcoa SMZ, CJSC) and the Belaya Kalitva Metallurgical Manufacturing Association (at present, Alcoa Metallurg Rus, CJSC).
