Diversification of Karabash's economy begins with 1.1 billion rubles

In 2011, 117 million rubles will be invested in the urban infrastructure of Karabash. In 2010, more than 200 million rubles from federal and regional budgets was spent on the city's development.

The press office of the Ministry for the Economic Development of the Chelyabinsk Region informed "RusBusinessNews" that the investment plan for the development of Karabash includes a diversification of the city's economic reliance on the steel industry. In 2011, three investment projects worth 1.1 billion rubles will get underway in the city. There are plans to build a sewing factory, a factory to produce wood-cement boards, and a facility complex for processing and storing fish.

The city's government continues its work with Russian Copper Company to try to reduce impact of Karabashmed CJSC on the environment. By 2015, 7.5 billion rubles will be allocated for the construction of a new sulfuric-acid plant, gas-treatment facilities, and exhaust systems. By modernizing steel production, it will be possible to cut harmful emissions by 47%.
