Uralvagonzavod adopts the International Railway Industry Standard - IRIS

By 2013, the main enterprise of the Uralvagonzavod Research and Production Corporation, which is located in Nizhny Tagil, is planning to adopt the International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS). It has been adopted in 23 countries by all the leading companies-manufacturers of rolling stock.

Results of IRIS compliance are published with reference to the database of the suppliers - members of the Union for European Rail Industry. Afterwards they become available to all Russian and foreign consumers of rolling stock and railway supplies.

The representatives of the Press Service of the corporation have informed "RusBusinessNews" that the adoption of IRIS will include several stages that relate to preparation and enacting of ruling documents, personnel training, preparation for certification. The corporation intends to allocate more than 11 million rubles for implementation of this project. It is expected that ultimately IRIS will be adopted by other businesses of the corporation, whose production operations are connected with manufacturing of products for railways.

With IRIS application, Uralvagonzavod will be able to manufacture rolling stock that complies with the present-day requirements of the international market. Its adoption will result in maximum improvement of the quality of the entire supply chain, in design development and manufacturing of innovative competitive products.
