Uralvagonzavod has broken the old Soviet record for railroad car production13.12.2011 — News SVERDLOVSK REGION. Between January and November, 2011, the Uralvagonzavod research and production corporation, OJSC (UVZ) produced more than 24,000 pieces of railroad equipment, thus meeting their annual target ahead of schedule. UVZ's press office told RusBusinessNews that their production totals exceeded last year's numbers for the 11 months by 40%. Since the beginning of 2011, the corporation's main factory has produced 18,589 gondola cars of various models, 5,350 tank cars, and 100 skeleton cars for carrying lumber. Not even during Soviet times was that much railroad equipment ever manufactured in a single year. This increase in production was possible because of the extensive modernization of the manufacturing facilities. In 2011, a manufacturing unit with an estimated annual production of 200 thousand sets of wheels opened at the Uralvagonzavod site in Nizhny Tagil. Also, the largest facility in Europe for preparing and painting rolling stock is now operating at full capacity. |
