Uralvagonzavod counts on a new contract with India02.04.2012 — News SVERDLOVSK REGION. The upgraded tank, Т-90S, manufactured by the Uralvagonzavod Research and Production Corporation, OJSC, became the Russian brand centerpiece at the 7th international exhibition of land and naval armaments, DEFEXPO-2012, that took place from Match 29 through April 1. The design developers believe that its presentation will help Russia to retain the leadership in tank exports. According to the data from the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, in 2006-2009 Uralvagonzavod supplied 482 Т-90S tanks to the world market. In 2010-2013, the corporation intends to sell 859 tanks. Experts think that to retain its leadership in export Russia should promptly bring the upgraded Т-90S to the international market. The new version of the Tagil tank was demonstrated for the first time in September 2011. The designers upgraded the fire control system, improved its maneuverability, increased the engine power, and changed the explosive reactive armor and sighting system. The design developers hope that the new software and hardware will help the tank commander to understand better the battlefield situation. The Russian manufacturers expect that the new model will be interesting, first of all, to India, which in 2006-2009 bought 657 tanks and is planning to buy another 600 tanks by 2019. Delhi is the largest importer of weapons, and lately it has started to diversify its purchases of combat equipment and vehicles; therefore, Russia is getting ready for a fierce competitive struggle and is vigorously promoting the new tank at specialized exhibitions. |
