VSMPO-AVISMA and Boeing are creating new titanium alloys02.11.2012 — News MOSCOW The VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation, OJSC and the American corporate group Boeing have signed a memorandum on expanding their cooperation. The corporation's press office told RusBusinessNews that the parties have agreed to continue to develop alloys and technology, and also to increase the capacity of their joint venture in Verkhnyaya Salda (the Sverdlovsk Region) - Ural Boeing Manufacturing. Innovators from Boeing and VSMPO-Avisma have worked together to roll out 3 new technologies, including the Ti5553 high-strength titanium alloy. Its use in the construction of components for the Boeing-787 Dreamliner makes it possible to save on fuel by reducing the aircraft's weight. Now the companies are creating two new alloys needed by the Russian aerospace industry. Four new, high-tech machines have been purchased for Ural Boeing Manufacturing, which will make the machining of the undercarriage more effective on the Boeing-737. They are scheduled to be installed in 2013. |
