VSMPO-AVISMA and Boeing are expanding their joint production in the Urals01.07.2013 — News SVERDLOVSK REGION The VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation, OJSC and the American company Boeing intend to build the second phase of their UBM plant in the Urals. The companies signed an agreement to that effect at the 2013 air show in Le Bourget. According to Sergei Chemezov, the general director of the state corporation Rostec (which owns a blocking stake in VSMPO-AVISMA), the construction is scheduled to begin in 2014. VSMPO-AVISMA's press office told RusBusinessNews that one joint venture between the two companies - Ural Boeing Manufacturing - has been operating in Verkhnyaya Salda (the Sverdlovsk Region) since 2009. That factory specializes in the primary machining of titanium forgings for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Currently more than 40% of the titanium products purchased by Boeing are produced by VSMPO-AVISMA. Over the next 30 years, the Boeing holding company plans to invest $18 billion USD in a program to manufacture products from Russian titanium. |
