VSMPO-AVISMA will buy carnallite in Israel03.12.2014 — News SVERDLOVSK REGION The VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation, OJSC, has found an alternative supplier of carnallite ore. Instead of Uralkali, raw stock required for production of titanium sponge can be supplied by Israeli vendors, as RusBusinessNews was informed by the Press Service of the Corporation. VSMPO decided to take supporting measures after the recent accident in one of Uralkali’s mines in Solikamsk in the Perm Region. The brine threatened to flood not only the sylvinite mine – Solikamsk-2, but also the carnallite mine – Solikamsk-1. According to Mikhail Voevodin, General Director of the Corporation, VSMPO-AVISMA worked with an Israeli supplier of carnallite in 2006 when another mine of Uralkali – Berezniki-1 – was flooded. Besides, VSMPO-AVISMA is developing technology of application of liquid chlorine. As the General Director of the Corporation pointed out, it will increase the production cost of titanium sponge only by 2–3%. |
