RCC intends to invest over 2 billion rubles in the Karabash environmental program08.11.2016 — News CHELYABINSK REGION
In 2017-2018 the Russian Copper Company is planning to allocate more than 2 billion rubles for the environmental program at Karabash. The coordination agreement was signed by RCC’s subsidiary – Karabashmed, CJSC, Boris Dubrovsky, Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region, and the federal agencies: Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation and Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources.
The agreement was signed on November 1, 2016, on the threshold of the Year of the Environment, RusBusinessNews has been informed by the RCC Press Service.
Karabashmed, a key copper smelting asset of the company, undertakes to reduce air pollutant emissions and eliminate the accumulated environmental damage. The smelter will be equipped with a mechanized system of blister copper pouring, new converters with gasproof dust caps and a new gas treatment system. The program also includes a project of reclamation of the tailings storage facility located at the industrial site of the smelter. More than 20 hectares of land have been damaged over the years of ore-dressing operations at the Karabash Copper Smelting Works (1933–1989).
Vsevolod Levin, RCC President, points out that the investment in upgrading of the Karabashmed facilities has already reached more than 16 billion rubles.
