SVERDLOVSK REGION
The Arbitration Court of the Sverdlovsk Region conducted the preliminary hearing of the complaint filed by the Ural Interregional Directorate of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources against VSMPO-Avisma Corporation PJSC. The directorate requests a compensation from the corporation in an amount of 651.6 million rubles to recover the damage caused to the soils in the vicinity of Verkhnyaya Salda, RusBusinessNews reports.
As the representative of the plaintiff explained, in 2019, the audit found that the corporation used the land outside the tailing pond for the similar industrial waste. The area used for the waste was more than 347 thousand square meters.
In August 2020, the corporation was requested to pay a compensation for the land damage. However, the corporation refused to pay voluntarily for the caused damage, according to the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources.
The next hearing is scheduled for July 23. Among other things, the court intends to determine who the owner is regarding the land where the waste was stored and to bring them into the proceedings as a third party.
Previously, Mikhail Voevodin, the former General Director of VSMPO-Avisma, was charged with abuse of power. The amount of the damage caused by his actions, according to the investigators, was around 4 billion rubles.
