AvtoVAZ Gets Ready To Make Cars Out Of Russian Metal28.10.2009 — News THE CHELYABINSK OBLAST. OAO Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) made a decision to expand production and shipments of new steel grades to JSC AvtoVAZ. MMK will prepare the trial batch of the hot-dip-galvanised rolled metal 1600 mm wide used for car body manufacturing. MMK informed RusBusinessNews that AvtoVAZ had been formerly buying this kind of rolled metal abroad. Supplies form Magnitogorsk will facilitate a significant reduction of the car production costs. The first batch will be shipped to Togliatti in November 2009. The AvtoVAZ management has been making statements that the company is striving toward making low cost cars. According to experts this will be helped by ceasing of some imports. At the moment the Russian automotive giant and MMK are discussing the range of hot and cold rolled metal to be supplied. |
