Siemens Will Participate In Production Of Electric Locomotives In The Urals19.02.2010 — News THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST. By the end of July 2010 a joint venture with Siemens will be established on the basis of OAO Urals Plant of Railway Machine Building. The German company will own 49% of shares. The government of the Sverdlovsk Oblast informed RusBusinessNews that the Russian side is expecting to receive not only investment but the state of the art technologies as well. For instance, Siemens can establish the production of the new generation asynchronous drives. It is planned to make the pre-production prototype locomotive with asynchronous traction drive in 2010 and to start batch production in 2011. Having the standard weight parameters the electric locomotive which has never been made in Russia before will be capable of pulling trains weighing up to 9-10 thousand tons. Its power output will exceed the currently produced models by 30-40%. OAO Urals Plant of Railway Machine Building, a part of the Sinara Group, makes DC cargo train locomotives equipped with commutator motors 2ES6 and caries out modernisation of DC cargo locomotives VL11. The key customer of the company is JSC Russian Railways.
