Enel Energy Concern Will Spend 350 Million Euro for the Sredneuralskaya SDPP Upgrade

By the end of 2009, the construction and assembly work on the new combined cycle power generating unit site at the Sredneuralskaya SDPP (a part of OGK-5) is to be completed; it is scheduled for commissioning in 4th quarter of 2010. The contract for a turnkey commissioning of the combined cycle unit with a 410 MW capacity (PGU-410) is implemented by a Spanish company Iberdrola Ingenieria y Construccion. The 350 million Euro investment is provided by an Italian energy concern Enel Investment Holding B.V. which owns 55.8% of OGK-5 that includes the Sredneuralskaya, Reftinskaya, Konakovskaya, and Nevinnomysskaya SDPPs.

The commissioning of the new power generation unit will make it possible for OGK-5 to decommission the two outdated power generation units with a total capacity of 62 MW. The combined cycle unit will have the capacity to generate 3 billion KWh of electricity annually, which will strengthen the position of OGK-5 in the federal wholesale electricity and power market. In addition to that, the energy producers will manage to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 50%.
