Khanty-Mansiysk
Khanty-Mansiysk, the administrative centre of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Ugra is located at the confluence of the rivers Ob and Irtysh. Population : 68,000 people. Khanty-Mansiysk is developing as the coordination and management centre for the economy of a vast territory with a huge natural resource potential. Data processing centres, communication facilities, administrative and financial institutions of the Ugra government are all concentrated here.
Historical reference The first settlement in the territory of today's Khanty-Mansiysk appeared in 1637. The name of the village was Samarovsky Yam and its population consisted of coachmen who earned their living carrying people and cargo along the path from the European part of Russia to Siberia.
Economy The people of Khanty-Mansiysk are young. 46,000 people are employed in various sectors of economy. A significant proportion of the population work as civil servants employed by the administrative bodies of Ugra and managers of private companies and organizations. Khanty-Mansiysk international airport is capable of landing all types of aircraft.
Culture & Education In addition to the well developed network of the elementary and secondary education there are 10 universities in Khanty-Mansiysk.
