The Chinese Will Plant Cucumbers and Tomatoes in Chelyabinsk Oblast Fields23.04.2009 — News THE CHELYABINSK OBLAST. In 2009 the Chinese citizens are going to control a third of the cucumber and tomato production in the Chelyabinsk Oblast. Now the Chinese are using 256 hectares of land in five different districts of the Oblast for greenhouses. The Oblast Government informed RusBusinessNews that the Chinese agrarians are renting lands from loss making farming companies and buying up the land shares from the locals quite actively. This year they have erected greenhouses over the area of 200 hectares. The Chelyabinsk vegetable producers are seriously concerned about the unexpected competition. The citizens of China sell tomatoes and cucumbers 30-40% cheaper, and the local agrarians will not be able to withstand such dumping prices for too long a time. Meanwhile, herbicides prohibited by the RF legislation have already been detected in the "Chinese" cucumbers. |
