UMMC will locate a nickel plant in the Sverdlovsk region13.11.2012 — News SVERDLOVSK REGION Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company is weighing the idea of building a nickel plant in the Middle Urals. A company that would be able to produce 50 thousand tons of nickel a year could be located in Kirovgrad, near a branch of Uralelectromed, OJSC (a subsidiary of UMMC) that produces base metals. Andrei Kozitsyn, UMMC's general director, told RusBusinessNews that the raw materials will come from the Elkinskoe and Elanskoe copper-nickel deposits (in the Voronezh region). The project will go forward if there is confirmation that those sites contain the needed reserves of ores. UMMC's management has previously stated that the deposits in the Voronezh region will be worth developing if they have at least 500 thousand tons of C1-C2 nickel reserves. The site license specifies 50 thousand tons of nickel. |
