The exhibition opens August 9, 2013 in the regional center’s Picture Gallery. The region’s culture ministry told RusBusinessNews that art lovers will get to see 64 different works by the top ten masters of printmaking. New Japanese Engravings will acquaint visitors with the complex technique of mezzotint, which was widely used in Europe beginning in the 15th century and is being revived today. Some of the exhibition’s unique displays are works by the artist Takeshi Katori, who created traditional engravings depicting Russian historical monuments that made an impression on him, such as the church on the Nerl and the wooden cathedral on Kizhi. The engravings were collected in the studios of Tokyo artists by Andrei Martynov, the well-known Russian art curator and general director of the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art. |
