Ekaterinburg Drivers Preparing for Traffic Problems during SCO summit07.05.2009 — News THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST. Additional security measures will be introduced in Ekaterinburg on 15-16 June 2009 during the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) heads of states. It is planned to free the city streets of cargo transport and learner drivers. It has been recommended to managers of driving schools to keep the learners off the Ekaterinburg and suburban streets from 10 to 20 of June. The owners of cars with windows tinted not conforming to regulations will be treated as violators. They will be penalised more often. 26 additional road police check points were organised in Ekaterinburg in preparation to the summit. Mayor's office informed RusBusinessNews that the stations will improve traffic on the roads where it is heaviest. The situation will also be helped by a temporary ban on cargo vehicles in the city centre. When motorcades of heads of states travel through the city the streets of Ekaterinburg will be tightly cordoned off by the police. Groups of ambulance and police cars are cruising around the city every day imitating special vehicle motorcades. This is done to help drivers to form a habit to instantly give way to vehicles displaying special warning signals, otherwise they will loose their driving licenses for 3 months. |
