VSMPO-AVISMA has manufactured titanium parts for a spaceship30.10.2015 — News SVERDLOVSK REGION Hemisphere forgings from titanium alloys manufactured by the VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation will be tested as part of the trial model of the fuel tank of the European service module. The module is intended for support of the new American spacecraft - Exploration Mission-1 Orion, which will be built at Lockheed Martin in New Orleans. The European service module will be made in Germany. The vessels for the trial model made by Airbus Defense and Space, which will include hemisphere forgings from Russian titanium, have been supplied without inner components so far. It is explained by the fact that only the tank shell filled with testing fluid is required for the tests. The tests will show whether the structural elements are suitable for sustaining significant loads, such as launching loads, RusBusinessNews has been informed by the Press Service of the Corporation. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is planning to use the Exploration Mission-1 Orion for interplanetary flights. By today, the spaceship has orbited Earth twice; the next flight will be around the Moon. In future, the Orion may make a voyage to Mars.
