Leaders of SCO Member States Started Discussing Regional Security Issues and Financial Crisis15.06.2009 — News THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Ekaterinburg started on 15 June 2009 with a private discussion on regional security and global financial crisis issues. The leaders of Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have gathered in Hyatt Regency Ekaterinburg. They will be later joined for a plenary meeting by the leaders of the countries that have an observer status (Afghanistan and Pakistan); amongst other issues, the meeting is to discuss the situation in North Korea and Afghanistan. In his opening speech, Russian President Dmitry Medved congratulated the participants on the SCO's eighth anniversary. He said that the organisation has come a long way in this short period. |
