President of Uzbekistan Has Again Suggested the "6+3" formula for Afghanistan16.06.2009 — News THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST. One of the major items on the agenda of the meeting of the heads of the SCO member states on 16 June in Ekaterinburg, attended by all leaders, was the situation in Afghanistan. The alarming situation in the Pakistan-Afghanistan zone made the leaders of the country come up with a number of suggestions. According to the president of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, military solution is not the right choice for the Afghanistan issue. National crisis should be solved with the help of the country's people and political force. Meanwhile, a contact group under the aegis of UN can help stabilize the situation. The "6+3" formula stands for the six countries bordering with Afghanistan plus Russia, USA and NATO. The leader of Uzbekistan has already suggested this idea back in 2008, but it has not yet received a sufficient backing. |
