Ekaterinburg residents are introduced to transportation system of future14.09.2021 — News
SVERDLOVSK REGION
The authorities of the Ural capital are planning to implement 10 ambitious transportation projects within the next few years, including three new streetcar rail lines and an above-ground metro ring road. The map with future transportation facilities is presented in the latest issue of the Vecherny Ekaterinburg newspaper.
In his column, Mayor Alexey Orlov informed about the completion of the construction of the third section of the Ekaterinburg Ring Road, the reconstruction of the Tyumen and Chelyabinsk highways, the Ekaterinburg Ring Road near Koltsovo Airport and the junction at the Kalina Corporation as well as the construction of streetcar rail lines to Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Akademichesky, Solnechny, and Novokoltsovsky districts.
"Together with the country, the Ural capital is heading to economic growth and further development. All our efforts are directed toward making life better for each resident of Ekaterinburg. State-of-the-art roads will connect our city with Moscow, Tyumen, and Chelyabinsk. It means growing local economies and wages of common people," the mayor pointed out.
The traffic along the light rail line from Novokoltsovsky will start after 2023. The authorities of the Sverdlovsk Region assume that it will be operated by a concession holder, and expenses will be partially reimbursed through budgetary subsidies.
"The design project of the streetcar rail line from Novokoltsovsky is very similar to what I offered years ago," urban planner Vladimir Zlokazov told RusBusinessNews. "Streetcar stations will be located in Poultry Factory, Svetly, Sosnovy Bor, and Uktus residential neighborhoods. It will be much easier for people to use this transport, and, as a result, the streetcar line will attract a lot of passengers".
The streetcar line from Novokoltsovsky will meet the commuter train line in two places. As planned by Russian Railways, it will begin at Koltsovo Airport and will run around Ekaterinburg. One of its sections will run across Verkh-Isetskiy pond, along the bridge that will be built for this purpose.
Vladimir Zlokazov noted that the above-ground metro will play an important role in improvement of the transport communication with satellite towns of Ekaterinburg.
