Ugra Will Get Support from Canada in Its Berry Project17.06.2009 — News UGRA, RusBusinessNews Canada is ready to support Ugra in establishing a facility for berries and mushroom processing. Canada is going to invest several hundred thousand dollars under the Russian-Canadian Agreement on cooperation in the Arctic and in the North. According to the expert estimates the regional forests annually yield up to 10.7 thousand tones of blueberry, 3.2 thousand tones of bilberry, 300 tones of raspberry, 900 thousand tones of red currant and 1.4 thousand tones of black currant, 2.6 thousand tones of cloudberry and 600 tones of rosehip. However, the local people only gather 2% of these vast volumes. Hi-Tech Park in Ugra has developed a non-waste processing and preserving system for plant raw materials. Only minimum space is needed for the equipment which costs about 500 thousand roubles. Canadians think of such mini plants as one of the possible options of implementing the project that will also be funded by the regional government. |
