SVERDLOVSK REGION
On March 5th, Verkhnyaya Salda celebrated the opening of a stage of the Children's Cup of Russia in chess, named the Titan Cup. The intellectual competition attracted 262 chess players from the Sverdlovsk, Kemerovo, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, Orenburg regions, Perm Territory, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, Altai, Bashkortostan, and other entities of the Russian Federation.
The host of the tournament, the Debut chess club of VSMPO-AVISMA, fielded 55 players, including Aleksey Prokhorov, the 2023 Asia Championship winner and holder of the 2023 Russian Cup among boys, as reported to RusBusinessNews by the corporation's press service.
The tournament organizers welcomed the Cup participants and supporters.
"Children who learn chess demonstrate better memory and concentration in their studies: they often excel in mathematics, natural sciences, and language learning. Thus, I believe it's critically important to develop children's chess sport in the Sverdlovsk region. By doing so, we can enhance the overall intellectual potential of our youth. A new level of support in this focus area and in motivating our students is the stage of national competitions, which we, together with our partners, decided to hold in Verkhnyaya Salda," said Mikhail Shilkov, founder of the Empathy Foundation and shareholder of VSMPO-AVISMA.
"Chess is a game where each move counts. We have made every effort to organize the competition so that the participants could focus solely on the game, making their coaches proud and their parents revel in their victories. Now, it's your turn. I wish you to always stay ahead and confidently pursue your goals. Let each move be thoughtful and each game exhilarating. Incidentally, the medals and cups, made of titanium and specially cast by VSMPO-AVISMA employees for the Titan Cup, await their champions! Wishing you luck and unforgettable emotions from the competition," motivated the young athletes Dmitry Trifonov, CEO of VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation, PJSC.
"Today, we are witnessing a historic event – the Titan Cup in Verkhnyaya Salda. I express my gratitude to VSMPO-AVISMA's leadership for the conditions created, enabling competitions of the highest level. Currently, over 29,000 individuals in the Sverdlovsk region engage in chess. Just in 2023, the number of people regularly practicing chess in the Urals increased by 5,000. I am confident that this project will reveal new talents and seasoned players. I am sure that the emergence of new chess stars in Verkhnyaya Salda will help us discover new talents who will shine in the chess Olympiad," highlighted Leonid Rapoport, Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Sverdlovsk Region.
The children's Cup program (included in the Russian Chess Federation and the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation calendar) consists of eight tournaments. Until March 10th, girls and boys will compete in three age groups – under 9, 11, and 13 years, along with youth and girls under 15 years old.
For the Titan Cup participants and viewers, the competitions are broadcasted online, a Telegram channel for the event has been set up, and an engaging program, including workshops and games, is prepared. The event is supported by the Russian Chess Federation, Sverdlovsk Region Chess Federation, Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, and the Sverdlovsk Region Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports. |
