On March 4, the ceremonial opening of the Titan Cup children's chess stage took place in Verkhnyaya Salda. The intellectual competition dedicated to the anniversary of the Great Victory brought together nearly 500 chess players from 20 regions of Russia.

The children's Cup, which is part of the annual calendar of the Russian Chess Federation and the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, consists of eight tournaments. Boys and girls will compete in age groups up to 9, 11, and 13 years old, while young men and women will compete in the up-to-15 category. Winners and medalists will receive unique trophies and medals made of pure titanium, as well as cash prizes. The Cup is hosted by the students of the corporate club of VSMPO-AVISMA from Berezniki and Verkhnyaya Salda, as reported by the press service of the corporation to RusBusinessNews.

The tournament is organized by VSMPO-AVISMA, the Empathy Charitable Foundation of Mikhail Shelkov, a shareholder of VSMPO-AVISMA PJSC, and the Sverdlovsk Region Chess Federation. The competition is held with the support of the Russian Chess Federation, the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, and the regional Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports.

"Gifted children need sustained support to succeed in adulthood: knowledge from motivated teachers, advice from older peers, daily training, and regular competitions. The chess initiatives of the Empathy Foundation and VSMPO-AVISMA are specifically designed to address this goal. We are seeing more and more outstanding kids in the region, and we are striving to further encourage their development, providing financial and organizational support, and at the Titan Cup, we bring together the best competitors from all over the country," said Mikhail Shelkov, founder of the Empathy Foundation.

The Titan Cup continues its tradition of providing an accessible and engaging experience for its participants and viewers, with live online broadcasts, a dedicated Telegram channel, a captivating program, masterclasses, and games. In 2024, the intellectual competition united 252 chess players from Sverdlovsk, Kemerovo, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, and Orenburg regions, Perm Territory, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, and the Republics of Altai, Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, and other regions of the Russian Federation.
