Boeing Opened New Joint Venture in the Urals07.07.2009 — News THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST. On 7 July 2009 Boeing, an American aircraft engineering corporation, and OAO VSMPO-Avisma Corporation, the leading Russian titanium producer, opened a joint venture in Verkhnyaya Salda. The start-up of the Ural Boeing Manufacturing (UBM) has been timed to coincide with the visit of Barack Obama, the US President, to Russia. The enterprise will perform the primary machining of stamped titanium parts for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Russian aircraft. Mr. Sergey Chemezov, the Director General of Rostechnologii (Russian Technologies State Corporation), noted that thanks to the administration of the new American President the Ural Boeing Manufacturing has managed to obtain the licenses for international orders. Stamped parts will be manufactured at the titanium production facilities of VSMPO-Avisma. Final processing of the forgings is planned to be completed at the Boeing's plant in Portland (USA), and other metal-working subcontractors. Mr. Gary A. Baker, the UBM Chief Executive, told RusBusinessNews that the total amount of investments amounted to 60-65 million US dollars. First shipments are planned for September 2009. By 2011 the company is going to reach the projected capacity of 10 aircraft sets per month. The Ural Boeing Manufacturing was founded in August 2007, during the past two years, the construction of the new production facility has been completed and high-tech equipment, supplied by MAG Cincinnati (USA), has been installed. About 70% of VSMPO-Avisma's products is exported. The Urals company covers a third of Boeing's needs for titanium. |
