THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST.

Palaeontologists in the Sverdlovsk Oblast started the preservation the Mammoth's skull which has been recently found on a bank of the Tura river. The find of the local fishermen is supposedly 40 thousand years old.

The Urals Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences informed RusBusinessNews that this rather large skull belonged to a male. Currently the organisation of an expedition is being considered in order to discover the rest of the remains of the ancient animal.

This is not the only find of this kind on the territory of the Urals Federal District. In May 2007 a well-preserved baby mammoth, referred to as "Lyuba" by the scientists, was found on the Yamal peninsula. It lived 37 thousand years ago. Lyuba is 85 centimetres high and her weight is over 50 kilos.
