Siemens Will Make Electric Locomotives for Cargo Trains in the Urals15.07.2009 — News THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST. The agreement on the establishment of the Russian-German enterprise for the production of new generation locomotives will be signed on 16 July 2009 in Munich. It will become a part of the set of documents which will be signed within the framework of the visit of the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Germany. The joint venture will be organised on the basis of the Ural Railway Machine Building Plant which is a part of the Sinara Group since 2004. At the moment the enterprise makes new generation cargo train locomotives running on direct current. The company informed RusBusinessNews that the locomotive prototype with the asynchronous traction drive will be made in 2010 and batch production is planned to start in 2011. The highly localised programme for the production of component aggregates will be implemented stage by stage, maintenance, service, and repair work will be organised for the electric locomotives during their entire lifecycle. Currently there is no such locomotive manufactured in Russia. The locomotive has standard mass parameters and will be able to pull trains weighing 9-10 thousand tons which is about 30-40% more than the locomotives currently in use. |
