Ural Automobile Plant Remains Russian Army Supplier15.10.2009 — News THE CHELYABINSK OBLAST. "Ural" Automobile Plant, a member of the GAZ Group, will receive an order for production of trucks for the RF Defence Ministry in 2010. The Chelyabinsk Oblast authorities managed to secure the complete implementation of a three-year contract with the military department. The state contract provides for the supply of 8,390 trucks for the Russian Army in 2008-2010. Its value exceeds 11 billion roubles. The defence job accounts for half of the trucks that the plant manufactures. When it comes to sharing the money from the RF Defence Ministry, "Ural" struggles against its competitor - KamAZ. It was supposed that the two plants would share orders with a value of 24 billion roubles over three years. For reasons unknown, the military department has decided to award the 2010 state contract to KamAZ. Thus, the plant in the Urals might end up on the verge of a shutdown. "Ural" Automobile Plant is the key taxpayer in the town of Miass. Due to the economic crisis, its 2009 production volume has decreased by 60 per cent y.o.y. Within a very short time, the GAZ Group management and the Chelyabinsk Oblast government have managed to ensure that the 2010 state contract will be maintained. The plant has informed RusBusinessNews that the parameters of the three-year contract will not be altered; this year, "Ural" will supply 2,300 trucks with 4x4, 6x6, and 8x8 wheel arrangements to the army. |
