Salym Petroleum Development Counts On “Smart Fields”

Salym Petroleum Development has completed the implementation of the well and reservoir management technology known as "Smart Fields". As well as 130 wells of the Salym oil field providing almost 50% of the company's production, water source and water injection wells are also connected to the project. 

"Smart Fields" is an innovation technology for the online transmission of information from a well pad to the control centre developed by Shell specialists. The received data is used for forming models which serve as the basis for the optimal configuration of integrated production system. The company informed RusBusinessNews that by the end of 2009 the project will be implemented on all production wells of Salym fields.

Salym Petroleum Development N.V. is a joint venture established in 1996 for the development of the Salym group of oilfields in the Western Siberia. SPD is a 50/50 joint venture company between Shell Salym Development B.V. and OAO NK Evikhon (currently a subsidiary of Sibir Energy).

More than 14.3 million tons of oil has been produced in all the years of work at the Salym group of fields (6.3 million in 2008). One of the preconditions for the continuous growth of the production at Salym Petroleum Development is the work aimed at the enhancement of oil recovery.
