The Scandinavians Will Help the Sverdlovsk Oblast Forestry03.04.2009 — News THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST. The timber industry of the Sverdlovsk Oblast will employ the Scandinavian forest management models. On 2 April 2009, within the Days of Finland in Russia programme, John Deere Forestry, Ponsse, and Profi-Forest have presented their logging and timber processing machines and equipment. The Sverdlovsk Oblast has accumulated a wealth of experience using all types of Finnish forestry equipment and is planning to look for further ways of cooperation with the Finnish partners. RusBusinessNews was informed by the regional Government that forestry companies in the Urals are changing from the clear-felling system to the Scandinavian forest management model which requires the implementation of modern technologies and machines. The Scandinavian forest management technique is based on the selective logging. Foresters mark the "mature" trees with a laser mark which is then used by the machinery for harvesting. Currently, OOO Fankom is employing this technology in the Sverdlovsk Oblast. Purchasing Finnish up-to-date logging machinery is becoming less available due to the depreciation of the rouble. This is why the Ministry of Industry and Science of the Sverdlovsk Oblast is considering the SKD (Semi Knock Down) concept for the import of foreign machines with the final assembly at the Lesmash plant. |
